St. Andrew’s Autism Centre (SAAC) is an integrated and comprehensive facility serving people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). It runs the St. Andrew's Autism School which is temporarily located at 15 Guillemard Crescent. It also runs a Day Activity Centre which is temporarily located at Block 33, Bedok South Avenue 2, #01-319.
St. Andrew's Autism Centre operates as a service arm of St. Andrew's Mission Hospital. St. Andrew's Mission Hospital is a non-profit voluntary welfare organisation. It was incorporated by an Act of Parliament on 28 December 1934 in St. Andrew's Mission Hospital Act Chapter 315. SAMH is granted Institute of Public Character (IPC) status under the Health Endowment Fund.
In 2010, St. Andrew's Autism Centre will move to its permanent home at 1 Elliot Road which was previously occupied by St. Andrew's Community Hospital. The redevelopment project is partly funded by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports. When ready, the Centre will cater to a comprehensive range of needs of people with autism and their families. Among other services, it will incorporate research and professional training facilities, a medical centre, a family support centre and a volunteer centre. It is hoped that the Centre will be a natural setting for parish involvement through its entire range of activities open to volunteers.
St. Andrew's Autism Centre will strive to set benchmarks for autism service. It will not set glass ceilings for what people with autism can achieve. It believes that whatever the level of achievement, a next step forward is always possible with patience, determination and willingness to think out of the box.
